Janet attended East Lambton Secondary School in Watford, and later graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1991 with her bachelor of law degree.  After being called to the Bar in 1993, she practiced with the firm of Cohen, Highley, Vogel and Dawson in London, Ontario, before relocating her practice to Sarnia in June, 1996.

Janet has been extensively involved with the Lambton Law Association, and has completed multiple terms as treasurer and president.  She is active with a number of professional organizations, including the Chief Justice of Ontario's Advisory Committee on the Issue of Professionalism.

She and her husband David, have 2 children, Katie and Brian.  They operate a cash crop and beef operation in central Lambton County.
